NEW ZEALAND - NORTH ISLAND OVERVIEW
This 12 day North Island New Zealand photo tour will begin in Auckland, New Zealand’s largest cosmopolitan city, known as “The City Of Sails” which has dormant volcanoes. We will travel around it’s harbours to walk the black sands on it’s rocky windswept West Coast beaches.
New Zealand coastlines are formidable vistas, so heading north to Goat Island Marine Reserve you will experience solitary wild surf beaches with black shimmering sand to wind and sea eroded rock formations. From here we’ll travel north stopping along the East Coast and staying in tranquil Mangawhai, then down the West Coast back via Auckland and onward to the beautiful Coromandel.
Heading east we will then visit Coromandel area and the boulder strewn coastline. Coromandel is a scenic finger of land reaching into the ocean and is part of the Pacific Coast Highway. This dramatic coastline with rugged ranges make it one of New Zealands best spots. As a “Kiwi” with local knowledge, David Still has managed to arrange a Coromandel Peninsula location not accessible to the general public for more unique photo opportunities.
As you head south, the unique and inescapable sulphur odour of Rotorua assaults your senses. Rich in Maori sights and customs, a traditional Maori greeting and meal “Hangi” can be experienced – genuine unique New Zealand shots await you of boiling mud pools and spurting geysers within the natural thermal area.
Hawke’s Bay within the Te Urewera National Park is Lake Waikaremoana, the North Island’s deepest lake, renowned for its vivid emerald blue waters set amongst lush greenery and the massive slabs of rock embedded on the shoreline that testify the colossal forces resulting in the majestic lake and surroundings.
Heading further south we will plummet you into a wilderness of the Tongariro volcanic plateau with its commanding snow capped mountains and Rangipo Desert, reminiscent of an airy moonscape. We travel to Mt Egmont National Park to visit the Goblin Forest with its trees that are smoothered in moss that evoke mysterious images, before going to Tongaporutu’s ’Three Sisters’ rock formations and the Maori petroglyphs.
After photographing isolated and rural beauty spots we arrive at Waitomo Caves to view the stalagmites, stalactites and columns if you wish or simple take a relaxing break before making our way to Raglan with the majestic Mount Karioi. Raglan was judged to be “New Zealand’s Best Looking Town” by Lonely Planet guidebooks. We then make our final journey south to Wellington, the nations capital city to capture some evening landmarks before you prepare for your departure from New Zealand.
You will look back on this experience with fond memories of a fabulous location and also an inner confidence that you can now recognize, capture and display all your future photos with great pride … a lifetime of cherished memories to flaunt on your return.
New Zealand offers endless stretches of road, lush greenery, fresh air, blue skies, and breathe taking views at every turn leaving you feeling serene and bring balance back into your life.
You will feel that infectious “kiwi buzz” in the cities through to the “chilled out” feel generated from the “down to earth” friendly attitude of the local people from this new but vibrant country.
