London is the capital city of England and the United Kingdom. It is the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom and the largest urban zone in the European Union.
Londons history goes back to its founding by the Romans, who called it Londinium. The City of London is London’s ancient core and retains its square-mile medieval boundaries and is governed by the elected Mayor of London and the London Assembly.
London is a leading global city with dominence in the arts, commerce, education (London’s 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutions in Europe), entertainment and fashion and has the world’s largest financial centre alongside New York and Tokyo.
Londons famous landmarks include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, 30 St Mary Axe (“The Gherkin”), St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square and Wembley Stadium. Also four World Heritage Sites including the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St Margaret’s Church; and the historic settlement of Greenwich (in which the Royal Observatory marks the Prime Meridian.
London can be easily accessed by walking along the quiet cobbled stone walkways or bustling main streets, or riding the London Underground network which is the oldest underground railway network in the world.
At every turn there are amazing examples of ancient and modern architecture with grand monuments. The photo opportunities are endless but the hassle is taken out of finding the best locations at the best times of the day with the guidance of Professional Photographer David Still.
