Although Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, the capital is the beautiful city of Edinburgh. Scotland officially recognises having 3 languages that are all used today – English, Scots, and Scottish Gaelic.

Scotland is famous for its Highland Bagpipes which are wind instruments made up of a melody pipe called the chanter and three drones that continuously fed by a reservoir of air in a bag. These are commonly seen at days out in Scottish bagpipe bands accompanied by numerous types of drums.

The other famous icon of Scotland is the kilt. This is a patterned woollen cloth known as tartan which is commonly associated with clans or family groups where surnames are associated with particular colours and designs of tartan.

Dating back to the 9th century, the Saltire or St. Andrew’s Cross has become Scotlands national flag and is also the oldest national flag still in use.
